Nathan: Up Close And Personal Showcase
UK Soul crooner Nathan has been on the scene for a good few years now and ever since the super-slick "Come Into My Room" burst onto our airwaves, we knew he was in it for the long haul.
Words and Pictures: Anna Nathanson
And judging by the impressive turn out at this exclusive industry showcase courtesy of Mona Records, he’s definitely here to stay. No expenses were spared as the lavish Riverside Plaza on London’s Albert Embankment played host to the glitzy midweek shindig. Guests such as Terri Walker, Baby J, Doctor and many others came down to witness the 19 year old in action, as well as enjoy the impressive spread and free drinks.
As fireworks were let off outside over the River Thames, Nathan dazzled, treating us to hits such as ‘Snatch’ and ‘Round and Round’, before slowing it down and showing off his vocal talents with ballads like ‘Do Without My Love’, the new single which has been getting heavy rotation on radio and TV alike. It was clear that despite the R’n’B scene being heavily dominated by American acts, the UK certainly has what it takes to compete, if Nathan is anything to go by.
He also gave Usher a run for his money by pulling off some slick dance routines, before sitting down at a table to perform one track, almost like a scene from a music video.
At the end he invited his mum on stage and thanked her for her support, leaving her visibly moved and rightly proud of her talented son. As the pair embraced and the crowd clapped, it was clear that it was definitely Nathan’s night and the start of something very big for the London sex symbol.
The crowd slowly filtered out, leaving with Nathan T-Shirts and a copy of his album ‘Masterpiece’, having had a top night of brilliant entertainment.
Nathan’s new single ‘Do Without My Love’ is released March 12 on Mona Records.
