Remy Ma Found Guilty Of Assault

Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma was found guilty of assault yesterday in relation to that much previously reported shooting incident.

As previously reported, Ma, real name Remy Smith, shot a friend outside a club in July last year after a dispute over money. Her defence argued that the two women had been struggling with each other when the gun went off by accident, but the prosecution argued Smith deliberately shot the victim, Makeda Barnes Joseph, and then sped off leaving the wounded Joseph to fend for herself. Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh told the court that Smith took "every step you had to take to shoot somebody".

The New York court found Smith guilty yesterday, and she was ordered to stay in jail until sentencing in next month. She could face up to 25 years in jail for the charges, though she is expected to get a lesser sentence.
