Jazzie B Receives OBE
Soul II Soul's Jazzie B has been awarded an OBE by the Queen in honour of his contribution to British black music. The producer and DJ received the honour last Friday at Buckingham Palace.
Jazzie, real name Trevor Romeo, said: "To be here at the palace was not in my dreams at all. It is fantastic to be in this situation. I'm going to get a really special place for this on my shelf".
Soul II Soul began in the early 80s as a sound system, of course, but by the late 80s the group were making their own music. They shot to fame with their single 'Back To Life', which topped the charts worldwide. The group subsequently won various awards and enjoyed record sales in the millions. In the following years, Jazzie B set up the Back II Life festival in Antigua, became an internationally renowned DJ and hosts a show on BBC London. His latest compilation album, 'School Days' is released on Trojan Records on 9 Jun.
