She was dropped by the label after her first album failed to make a big impact
and the single, '1980', missed the top 10. However, she was quickly snapped up
by John Legend's Homeschool label and recently had her first number one single
'American Boy', which featured guest vocals from Kanye West.
The singer said: "I look at it like building a mountain. If you get placed at
the top at the start, you'd fall down quickly. You have to be confident to
survive in this industry. You have to be screwed greatly by one label to
prosper".
Estelle has also just signed up to Hugo Urban Rules, a music programme set up
by Hugo Fragrances to discover and invest in new talent. The singer will head to
Manchester on 5 Jun to help select an artist who will then perform with her on a
special MTV showcase.
