British star Katy – whose first album, On A Mission, has been nominated for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize award – is eager to work with the Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart star.

The 22-year-old said that her “dream collaboration would be Alicia Keys, definitely”, while also adding that, when she “was younger, I used to play the piano and when she came out, I was like, ‘This is why I’ve been learning the piano’”.

Katy – real name Kathleen Brien – also talked about how she “just wanted to be” Alicia and “bought all her scores and used to write my own songs on top of her chord sequences and stuff like that”.

However, while Katy also revealed that she is planning to get dressed up for the 2011 Mercury Prize Awards Show in London on September 6, she wanted to stress that image is not the be-all and end-all for her.

Katy said that, “when I was in bands and going on stage, I didn’t really think about it that much”, mainly because she is more concerned with “the music, definitely”.

Katy accepts that “for some artists the way they dress is a big thing about how they express themselves”.

However, she just wants “to feel comfortable on stage, really, (as) I like to jump around and run up and down and that sort of thing”.
