Tinie Tempah has his "fingers crossed" following his nomination for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize.

The rapper is overjoyed that his debut LP 'Disc-Overy' is one of the 12 records shortlisted for the coveted awards and thanked the judging panel for their backing.

He tweeted: "A nom for 2011's Barclaycard Mercury Prize WOW!! Thank u'all so much for making my Debut Album such a special one.. Fingers crossed!(sic)

Tinie isn't the only nominated artist to take to twitter to express their gratitude for their nomination.

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey - who saw his group pick up the award in 2008 for 'The Seldom-Seen Kid' - was delighted to learn the band's follow-up record 'Build A Rocket Boys!' will contest for the accolade on September 6.

He posted: "I was on a train to London the first time we were nominated and here I am again! I f*ckin' love trains!!! Thanks so much whoever decides. Xx (sic)"

Tinie and Elbow find themselves facing competition for the prize from Adele, Katy B, James Blake, PJ Harvey, Metronomy, Everything Everything, Anna Calvi, Ghostpoet, Gwilym Simcock and King Creosote and Jon Hopkins.
