Snoop Dogg, Enrique Iglesias And Celine Dion Added To Charity Song Line-Up
Snoop Dogg The stars were joined by Lionel Richie, Kanye West, Tony Bennett, former Beach Boy Brian Wilson, Jamie Foxx, Jeff Bridges, LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, Jason Mraz, Vince Vaughn, Brandy, Josh Groban, Rob Thomas, Jennifer Hudson, T-Pain and Barbra Streisand at Jim Henson Co recording complex.
The song was originally released by Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and producer Quincy Jones in 1985 and featured performances from Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel and a host of other artists. The new version is being made to raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti and to mark the 25th anniversary of the song’s original release.
Celine Dion appeared on both versions of the song, and says it was “awkward” to be singing the track without Michael Jackson, who died last June.
"It was a very awkward feeling to sing this song without Michael, to be honest," Celine said. “But it is an amazing opportunity to recreate what we did 25 years ago.”
Jennifer Hudson was also thrilled to be involved. As she rushed into the recording studio, she shouted to reporters: “I’m so excited to be here!”
But Nicole Richie, who also lent her vocals to the track, joked that Jennifer didn’t perform as well as everyone expected.
“I hope Jennifer Hudson wasn't upset that I was out-singing her tonight,” Nicole wrote on her Twitter page.
