The British rapper – who was recently nominated for a second potential Barclaycard Mercury Prize for fourth studio album ‘Tongue N’ Cheek – thinks he contributed to the grime genre becoming more mainstream, and paved the way for other artists to become successful.

He said: “If you ask me if I’ve influenced people like Tinchy Stryder and Tinie Tempah, I think yeah, to an extent.  But they’ve done their own work as well - I guess I kicked down the doors but it’s up to people to make their own decision about walking through them.

“Everyone’s played their part and it’s good to be a part of that - to see successful artists for generations to come- it’s really positive.”

The ‘Bonkers’ hitmaker admitted his latest collaboration with dubstep duo Chase and Status – entitled ‘I’m So Heavy’ – is the most “outrageous” track he has recorded in a long time.

He explained: “It’s probably the most outrageous, banging, relentless track I’ve done in a long time. It’s going off on one. It’s just so banging - it’s devastating. Chase and Status - they’re beast - they are quite incomparable as far as how heavy they are with the whole dubstep thing.”

Dizzee Rascal will headline this year’s 10th anniversary Global Gathering festival, taking place in Stratford Upon Avon from July 30 – 31. For more information and tickets, visit www.globalgathering.com
