Rapper Lloyd claims he told Chris Brown to cry during his onstage tribute to Michael Jackson.

Brown's breakdown while singing Man In The Mirror onstage at Sunday's BET Awards instantly led to questions about whether it was genuine emotion or a calculated attempt to gain sympathy.

Now Lloyd has given an interview in which he says he had a conversation with Brown backstage before he went live - and advised him to shed tears.

Lloyd claims he told the shamed star: "Man, you gotta get up there and you gotta cry, you gotta show your heart to the world."

Lloyd's confession started a huge backlash in the US - and he soon made a U-turn, insisting the tears were from genuine feeling.

Now he insists he merely told Brown he should be open to his emotions - and merely encouraged him to let out whatever he was feeling.
