This year's Brit Awards was the most watched since 2005.

According to The Guardian, the Brit awards audience peaked at 7.4 million, more than double last year's audience.

Adele and Ed Sheeran both won two Brit awards each and Blur played a Greatest Hits set to close the show.

But the show ended in controversy as Adele's acceptance speech of the biggest award of the night, Best British Album, was cut short. Host James Corden was instructed to interrupt and introduce Blur's Greatest Hits set which was part broadcast on ITV1 and continued on ITV2.

BRIT Awards bosses said: "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."

James Corden told BBC 5 Live: "Just after Adele said thank you, people were saying: 'You have to go in now'... I said: 'How can we cut her off?' The whole room was on its feet."

Adele made a 'gesture' after the interruption but said it was for 'the suits' of the Awards. She said: "I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me."
