Classic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses is to be remade for American TV network ABC.

The pilot will be written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley from hit US comedy Scrubs and could turn into a full series.

The British version attracted huge audiences on BBC One throughout the 80's and 90's and the show spawned spin-off series including Rock & Chips and The Green Green Grass.

David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst starred as Del Boy and Rodney for over 20 years, making famous catchphrases like 'Rodney, you plonker!', 'Lovely Jubbly!' and 'This time next year we'll be millionaires!'

Rumours are already circulating about which US actors will play the iconic characters. Robin Williams has been tipped to play Uncle Albert while American Pie's Jason Biggs could play Rodney.

Some UK sitcoms have proved successful in their American transition.

The US version of The Office ran for eight series while remakes of other sitcoms, including Absoloutely Fabulous and Fawlty Towers, didn't succeed.
