The singer insisted that she did not leave the BBC show because of her new role.

Alesha Dixon has said that she did not leave Strictly Come Dancing because she was approached to judge on Britain’s Got Talent – she had already decided to leave the show.

The singer confirmed her switch of show back at the beginning of January, but after suggestions that she dumped the BBC in favour of a large paycheck from ITV, she felt yesterday was the right time to set the record straight.

The Mirror reported her as saying, "If it was, I'd have done so many crazy things over the years. I make decisions on what feels right and what excites me.

"I was going to leave Strictly anyway. Three years was respectable. It was time to move on. I wanted to do something fresh - I don't want to be boxed in. I want to try new things. You only get one life, it's not a rehearsal."
