Does Alesha's exit open the Strictly door for Arlene Phillips return?
Alesha Dixon Well, it’s that same old story of a show thinking it’s good to have a change and replace someone popular and opinionated with someone young, vibrant and fresh, but when the younger model ups sticks and leaves…well you try desperately to give someone a big comeback don’t you?
That is the question facing the BBC after Alesha Dixon left Strictly Come Dancing this week as they consider whether to bring back Arlene Phillips in her place.
The firing of Arlene brought no end of trouble for the BBC, as fans of the show accused the Beeb of using Arlene’s age against her, especially when the much younger Alesha was brought in to take her seat on the panel.
Arlene posted her thoughts and thanks to her fans on Twitter, saying, “Gosh Twitter followers and friends. I am overwhelmed by yours incredible tweets and campaigns. So much love and thanks.”
Of course there are others in the frame, such as former winners Jill Halfpenny and Kara Tointon as well as retired ballerina Darcey Bussell.
