Jack Whitehall has written a new sitcom, Bad Education, for BBC Three.

The comic stars as schoolteacher Alfie, described as 'the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system'.

The six-part series is part of a major push for new comedy on BBC Three.

The channel will showcase several new comedy shows including recommissioned series and pilots for the web as part of online project The Comedy Kitchen.

Online shows will include single-camera sketch show Dawson Brothers Presents, mime artist comedy The Boy with Tape on his Face and new lookalike show Breaking News.

On BBC Three, Him & Her will return for a third series and parenting comedy Pramface, which has yet to broadcast its first series, has already been given a second run.

New shows include The Revolution Will Be Televised, described as a cross between Newsnight and Trigger Happy TV, and sitcom Some Girls, from the creator of cult nineties comedy Game On.

Channel controller Zai Bennett said: "BBC Three is the channel that breaks new comedy in the UK.

"Our additional investment in The Comedy Kitchen and further online investment not only gives new talent and writers the time to grow and develop, but also ensures there is a clear nursery slope for them on to the channel."
