Derren Brown to delve deeper into human behaviour
Derren Brown Derren Brown's new Channel 4 show promises the magician's most ambitious and dramatic work to date.
The new show sees Brown perform four sociological experiments, some based on existing theories, and others created by Brown himself.
The performer said: "Three of them are relatively dark, looking into the darker side of human behaviour, and one of them is rather positive and jolly.
"The first one is called The Assassin. It's whether or not it's possible to hypnotise somebody to kill, to carry out an assassination. This is based on the testimonies given by political assassins who say they were brainwashed by the CIA."
Brown is no stranger to pushing boundaries on national TV.
A controversial stunt in 2003 saw him apparently play Russian Roulette live on air and in 2004 he performed a seance with a group of volunteers.
In Heist, participants in a show were manipulated to rob a security van in broad daylight and in 2009 Brown appeared to correctly predict the National Lottery numbers live on TV.
Brown said that he has relished many of the TV shows he has performed.
"I really liked Heist, that seems to be a popular favourite, but I think my personal favourite was Hero at 30,000ft, about the guy who ended up landing the aeroplane.
"That was a huge journey for somebody who is really transformed by it. And one of the really fun things about these shows is the lengths you go to. I ended up hiding in that guy's garage in his garden at 2am hypnotising him through a walkie-talkie that was under his bed. That kind of stuff is just fantastic. "
Derren Brown: The Experiments begins on Channel 4 on October 21.
