Funnymen David Walliams and Matt Lucas have sparked outrage with their new BBC spoof after being accused of being racist in it.

Thousands of viewers have complained after their British Christmas Day show Come Fly With Me featured the pair as a variety of minority characters.

Matt darkens his face and wears a beard to star as a Muslim worker called Taaj, as well as playing a black woman called Precious.

David's roles include a Middle Eastern passenger officer called Moses.

But many people didn't see the funny side and have taken to internet forums to complain about the first of a six-part series and even said it was like a 'minstrel show'.

It is not yet known how many people complained but the show was very popular after being the second most-watched show on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for the BBC told British newspaper the Daily Mail: "Come Fly With Me had a huge audience and many people loved it.

"Matt and David play all the characters and they are representing a multicultural society. They are not setting out to offend people."
