Simon Monjack’s Mother Believes He Dies Of A "Broken Heart"
Simon Monjack Sharon discovered him unresponsive in his bedroom and immediately summoned emergency services, but he was later pronounced dead at the property.
Brittany died at the same house in December, and Simon had regularly spoken of his grief at her passing. The 39-year-old was still struggling to come to terms with his loss at the time of his death, and his mother Linda is convinced it played a part in his passing. “I'd known he was ill all weekend and I was trying to get a flight out to Los Angeles. It would have been the first time I would've seen him since Brittany's death,” she told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. “I just wanted to see my son. He's had heart problems and been in deep distress since Brittany died. We think he has literally died of a broken heart.
“We think the heart problems were caused by the shock of Brittany's death. She was the love of his life and he was the love of my life. He was so distressed. The phone calls I had from him showed something was wrong. It was heartbreaking hearing my son like that. Somebody needs to tell the world he was a lovely man.”
Linda and her partner Philip added they plan to support Sharon as much as possible over the coming months. Linda is thankful for the way Sharon cared for Simon following Brittany’s death, and is devastated it was her who discovered him on Sunday night.
Simon was in the process of setting up a non-profit foundation in his wife’s name at the time of his death. She died aged 32 on December 20, and he was hoping to stage a memorial to mark the six-month anniversary of her passing.
“I don’t think you understand how much my wife and I loved each other. I can only wish you that closeness with another human being,” he said during his last interview, which was with RadarOnline.
He also expressed concern about Sharon, saying he was worried about how she was coping without her daughter. “Brittany was my world and Sharon was Brittany’s world,” he told the website. “That made it important for me to take care of Sharon after Brittany was gone.”
The cause of Simon’s death won’t be known until an autopsy and toxicology tests have been carried out, although it has been suggested he died of natural causes. His spokesman has said Simon needed a heart bypass but had put the operation off as he was too busy. Simon had previously said he suffered a heart attack, and was taking several types of prescription medications.
