Gwyneth Paltrow Thinks She Needs To Go To A "Mental Asylum"
Gwyneth Paltrow sometimes thinks she needs to go to a “mental asylum” because she gets so anxious.
The Hollywood star admits she is a perfectionist who struggles to let other people complete tasks on her behalf. She always thinks things won’t be done properly unless she has a hand in them, but her inability to delegate leaves her stressed and nervous.
“Sometimes I think I’m going to have to check myself into a mental asylum it gets so bad,” she revealed. “It’s my worst quality and I hate myself for it. It’s like, what’s wrong with you? Relax. Sometimes I feel like the psycho in Sleeping With The Enemy. Remember that film, where she’s got to line up all the apricot chutneys just so? I think I’m scared of something, like there’s something I need to figure out.”
Gwyneth has a therapist in New York she discusses her problem with, which she says is invaluable. She currently lives in London with her husband Chris Martin of rock band Coldplay and their two kids, and is currently looking for a professional to help her in the city.
The star suffered from post-natal depression following the birth of her son Moses in 2006, something she still has difficulty discussing. Her grandmother was a manic depressive, and Gwyneth says they shared many traits.
“Apparently she couldn’t get out of bed, she couldn’t feed the children,” she explained to the British edition of Vogue magazine. “Well, I totally recognise that. At my lowest, I was a robot. I just didn’t feel anything. I had no maternal feelings for him – it was awful. Still, when I look at pictures of him at three months old, I don’t remember that time.”
