The 80s heartthrob was found dead in his mother’s Los Angeles apartment last week. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office is believed to be waiting for the results of toxicology tests before deciding what killed the 38-year-old star.

Four bottles of powerful prescription medication, including one that had been issued fraudulently, were found in Haim’s room at the time of his death. Police initially suspected the actor had died of a drug overdose, but his mother Judy has insisted pulmonary congestion caused his death. She received preliminary autopsy results that indicated Haim had an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs when he died. He also had flu-like symptoms in his final days, leading her to assert his passing was not drug-related.

Toxicology reports will reveal whether Haim had any medications in his system when he died, and what part they played in his death.

Meanwhile, it has emerged Haim was pursuing a new career in music before he died. Last year, the star pitched a reality show, which would document his attempts to get sober while making a name for himself as a singer. Haim’s producing partner Jim Katz has released footage of the late star working on a single called Mend Me.

"Only I can mend me," he sings. "Only I can turn this shattered soul into a possibility. You don't have to defend me. This time I own up to myself. This is my responsibility."

Haim wanted to call the reality series Lost Boy Found, in reference to his biggest movie The Lost Boys.
