Marie Osmond Cancels Las Vegas Show
Marie Osmond has cancelled her Las Vegas show after realising she needs more time to cope with the death of her son.
The entertainer and her brother Donny returned to the stage in their Flamingo Hotel residency just one day after 18-year-old Michael Blosil was laid to rest in a funeral in Provo, Utah, on March 9. They have been performing almost every night since, and had even arranged extra concerts to make up for the five they cancelled in the week following Michael’s suspected suicide. Last night, Marie admitted her grief had become too much to handle and cancelled the next week of shows.
“She needed more time with her family during this difficult time," her representative Alan Nierob said in a statement. “She's still processing everything and it's really rough on her.”
Marie received a standing ovation during her first show after the death of her son. She was visibly emotional throughout the performance, but told the crowd she was happy to be back onstage.
“The way Osmonds survive is we keep singing,” she said. “That's what we want to do tonight. I know my son would want that and this show is for him.”
Donny and Marie are expected to resume their performance schedule on March 23.
