Kate Winslet Grew Tired Of Sam Mendes
Kate Winslet Kate Winslet reportedly grew tired of her estranged husband Sam Mendes’ friendship with a young actress in the months before their split.
It has now been claimed Kate struggled to cope with Sam’s friendship with Rebecca Hall, 27, who he cast in several of his plays. There is no suggestion the pair are anything other than pals, but Kate apparently found their closeness hard to deal with.
“Sam is a huge admirer of Rebecca’s work. He can be quite a lovey at times and really worked well with her, which would obviously wind Kate up,” a source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. “There’s no suggestion of anything untoward but undoubtedly the friendship didn’t help mend the struggling marriage.”
Sam, 44, and Rebecca have worked on several theatre projects in London and New York. It has been claimed she supported him as his marriage to Kate began to falter in recent months.
“When Kate found out that Sam had grown close to Rebecca she was upset. Rebecca is totally Sam's type - a thespian mix of brains and beauty,” a source told British newspaper The Daily Mail.
Another added to the publication: “Sam and Rebecca are good friends, of course they are, they have spent the better part of a year working together on the Bridge Project. But to insinuate that there is anything further in the friendship is taking it too far.”
It is understood Kate and Sam began suffering marriage problems after making 2008 movie Revolutionary Road together. They found living and working together tough and began arguing.
The pair allegedly decided they could no longer be together after a row about their work schedules. Sam is due to shoot the new James Bond film in England while Kate is working on a TV show in America.
“Sam raised several questions over whether she should be doing it, insisting she was above a TV script, and it wouldn’t progress her career. Not surprisingly, Kate went ballistic,” a source claims.
Kate, 34, has apparently become increasingly stressed as she struggles to cope with the breakdown of her marriage. She has turned to her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio – who she also starred alongside in Revolutionary Road – for support as the pair are good friends.
"Leo and Kate have been like brother and sister since they starred in Titanic together. And since Kate's marriage started to go south, around the time they were filming Revolutionary Road, they've got closer again,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. "Kate has always really adored Leo and feels like she can tell him anything. They were thrust into stardom together and were the only people who knew what the other was going through. He's been a rock for her.”
Kate and Sam began dating shortly after her divorce from Jim Threapleton, and they married in May 2003 on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. They raise two children together, their six-year-old son Joe and Kate’s daughter with Jim Mia Honey, nine.
