The dress worn by Audrey Hepburn when she won her Oscar for Roman Holiday has failed to sell at auction.

The ivory dress was estimated to have a sale price of up to £60,000 at the auction in London on Tuesday, but when the dress went under the hammer there wasn’t a single bid on it. This was a huge disappointment for all at the Kerry-Anne auction house in the capital, as they were sure the dress would be a massive hit with fans of Hepburn, but it seems that the tightening of the pursestrings of late has also hit the auction houses.

As well as the Hepburn dress, other items in the auction that did sell were the dress worn by the late Amy Winehouse on her Back To Black album cover went for £36,000, while a Princess Diana replica wedding dress was sold for £48,000
