The City of Toronto has offered to pay for Corey Haim’s funeral, his mother has claimed.

The 80s star died last week in his mother Judy’s Los Angeles apartment, where he was living to help care for her as she battled cancer. The actor was broke when he died, and Judy has asked fans to donate money to fund his funeral which is due to take place tomorrow.

She was planning to have Corey buried in his native Toronto, and was thrilled when the city’s officials called to offer to pay for the star’s funeral.

Judy told gossip website Access Hollywood that she had accepted the offer, adding that celebrity memorabilia site Startifacts.com had offered her $20,000 to cover additional costs, including a tombstone and catering.

The City of Toronto has refused to confirm or deny Judy’s claims. A statement released yesterdays afternoon read: “We do not confirm or comment on any potential, pending or active applications for assistance in such matters. Therefore, the City will not be commenting further on these reports.”

Corey’s friend and former co-star Scott Schwartz has also helped raise funds for the funeral, selling the late actor’s belongings, including his wardrobe, on eBay to benefit the Corey Haim Memorial Fund.

Corey’s cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests. Police suspect a prescription drug overdose, but his mother insists the star died of pulmonary congestion, after his post-mortem revealed he had an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs.
