Gerard Butler He admits he does enjoy the company of females, but insists his reputation as a womaniser is wide of the mark.
Gerard claims he is adept at keeping his romances secret, explaining being paired up with someone famous by the press is the perfect cover when it comes to his real relationships. “My last two girlfriends – one was two years, the other 18 months – nobody ever found out I was dating them. I’m pretty good at keeping that quiet,” he explained.
Gerard has been rumoured to be dating Jennifer since they shot The Bounty Hunter together last year. Both have insisted there is no truth to the speculation.
The actor still finds it hard to believe how his life has turned out, as it is so far removed from his humble beginnings. He was born in Scotland and moved to Canada aged six months, but returned to Scotland aged two when his parents’ marriage broke up.
He saw his father when he was four, but then had no contact until he was 16 and was told his dad was waiting for him when he returned home from school. Until that moment Gerard didn’t realise how much his parents’ split had affected him.
“I didn’t even know he was alive. Then he turned up,” the 40-year-old told British newspaper The Sun. “I cried after meeting him. That emotion showed me how much pain can sit in this body of yours – pain you don’t know you have until it is unleashed.”
