Sylvester Stallone wakes his wife up at 2am to talk about art.

The 63-year-old actor has been painting and collecting works of art for over 40 years. His painting career is now more lucrative than his acting one, and the star claims it brings him much more joy too.

“The painting, the fact I’ve been accepted into the art world, is the most flattering to me, more than the acting,” he said. “I’ve been an art collector my whole life, so it’s amazing. I wake up my wife at two o’clock in the morning and say, ‘It’s amazing! You don’t get it honey, it’s amazing!’ ”

Stallone is now well-respected in artistic circles, but claim it hasn’t always been that way. After he shot to fame playing tough guys in films like Rocky and Rambo, people found it hard to accept him as any other than a beefcake.

“Well, if I say it, it looks like I’m backing up the pity-pole but I totally understand people’s opinion of me,” he told Empire magazine. “It’s very hard to change perceptions. When you come in as fast as I did with Rocky, to then say, ‘By the way, he also writes and paints…’ They’re like, ‘Oh yeah? And what else does he do? Is he a wood carver, does he make meerschaum pipes?’ As you get older, maybe the diversification gets easier to accept.”
