Ricky Gervais Thinks He And Madonna Therapy Dream Team
Ricky Gervais thinks he and Madonna are a marriage counselling “dream team”.
The British comedian and the twice-divorced singer play therapists to a married couple in crisis on new US TV show The Marriage Ref. The series, created by Jerry Seinfeld, sees a revolving panel of celebrity judges determine the winner of domestic spats.
Madonna, Ricky and US comic Larry David watched a video of an argument filmed in a couple’s home before deciding whether the husband or wife was in the wrong.
“This is the dream team for therapy,” Ricky, who has been in a relationship for 25 years, said after filming. “This is the weirdest show I have ever been on.”
While the series focuses on warring couples, the first episode saw more fireworks amongst the judges than the spouses. Ricky and Madonna disagreed with Larry about the outcome of one trivial marital argument, and spent much of the episode arguing with him.
Towards the end of the show, Larry said: “This is easily the most uncomfortable hour I've ever spent in my life”, prompting Madonna to retort: “Why? because you're sitting next to a women who's standing up to you?”
The first episode of The Marriage Ref is due to air in the US on Thursday night. Eva Longoria-Parker, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Matthew Broderick are expected to star in upcoming episodes.
