The singer shot to fame after winning the 2006 series of talent programme The X Factor. She claims many of her fans feel genuinely responsible for her success in the UK, adding it is a completely different story when she is in America.

In America no-one really knows about the show, it’s not so talked about,” she explained on UK daytime show This Morning. “Here, people feel like they really know me. They have seen my story they’ve seen me develop, I’m connected to them a bit more here.”

Leona has always been determined to carve a successful career in the music industry, and began writing songs when she was just 12. She had a recording studio in her home as a teenager, but despite achieving her dream she still feels she has a lot to learn.

“I always feel like I’m growing. I studied classical and was doing opera since I was nine, and then I got into contemporary music from about 12,” the 24-year-old star said. “So I’ve always been training, and I believe if you keep doing that you’ll just get better and better. I definitely look after my voice. Every time I have shows I want to give the best show possible. I warm up, do singing lessons and I don’t overly use my voice.”
