Harrison Ford agreed to star in certain movies to force George Lucas to pay him more money.

The actor played Han Solo in Lucas’ blockbusting Star Wars series. He claims the legendary director paid him and his co-stars so little he was forced to accept roles in films he didn’t like so Lucas would be forced to pay him “real money”.

“The distinguishing reality is that I was the only person who had not signed a sequel deal,” the 67-year-old star explained. “After the success of Star Wars, I went away and made Hanover Street and Force 10 From Navarone.

“I did them with a singular purpose: that was to get my price well above what I was paid for the first Star Wars and oblige George to pay me and my fellow actors real money.”

Even though the move caused friction between him and Lucas, Harrison says he will always be glad he stood up for himself and his co-stars. Lucas agreed to pay the whole cast more and everyone was much happier when the time came to shoot the second and third films in the series.

“It improved all of our benefits when we came to do the next film,” he said.
