Royal couple get official home
Prince William The newlyweds, who recently returned from their first official tour together as husband and wife in Canada and the US, consider their primary abode to be a rented farmhouse on the island of Anglesey, off the coast of Wales.
However, they also require a royal residence in the British capital, and senior royal sources have confirmed to British newspaper The Daily Mail that the couple moved their furniture into a renovated apartment in Kensington Palace. Apparently the royals resided there for a couple of nights last week.
Kensington Palace was the official residence of Prince William’s late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, until her death in 1997. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent live in a five-bedroom and five-reception room suite in the palace, and William and Catherine’s apartment is believed to be “modest” in comparison.
Aides have insisted the move is only temporary as the apartment would not be large enough in the long run, particularly if the newlyweds decide to start a family soon.
According to reports, the apartment had initially been considered too dangerous to inhabit as it featured old wiring systems and asbestos needed to be removed.
