James McAvoy Is Glad He Is Not A Hollywood Woman
James McAvoy is glad he isn’t a woman in Hollywood because they are under so much pressure to look perfect.
The Scottish-born star says men get away with being overweight or plain looking in the movie industry, but females are expected to be beautiful and thin. James believes his actress wife Anne-Marie Duff, who is currently expecting the couple’s first child, has to deal with more comments about her appearance than he does.
“I'd hate to be a woman in this business. They're not allowed to be imperfect. If you see an actress weighing over 112lbs being cast for anything, it's considered totally edgy and 'out there' experimental cinema, which is ridiculous,” he said in an interview with the British edition of Elle magazine.
Although he doesn’t feel the pressure to conform, James insists there are some cosmetic procedures everyone has to undergo to make it in Hollywood.
“Your teeth need to be sorted out,” he explained. “It doesn't matter if you're playing a guy who's been living on a desert island eating coconuts for 20 years, your teeth need to be perfect.”
