Peter Andre Talks About Why He Cried On TV
Peter Andre says he cried on TV last week because the questions he was asked “hit a raw nerve”.
The singer appeared on a British programme to promote his new album Unconditional: Love Songs, with the date of his interview coinciding with the day news his ex-wife Katie Price had married Alex Reid hit headlines.
Peter didn’t comment on the marriage, but did speak about the three children he raises with Katie. During their union, Peter said he was keen to adopt Katie’s son Harvey, her child with soccer player Dwight Yorke. He was quizzed about it on the show, and shown footage of Dwight calling his comments “disrespectful”. After blasting Dwight, Pete was asked how he’d feel if Alex asked to adopt his kids, at which point he broke down.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support after my appearance on Sky News. As anyone who saw it will know, I broke down after Kay Burley started asking me some difficult questions about my kids,” he told New! magazine. “Many people jumped to the wrong conclusion and thought I was crying because Kate has married Alex Reid, but nothing could be further from the truth. I was crying because Kay asked me how I’d feel if Alex wanted to adopt my children. I really wasn’t expecting her to go down this route and I admit it completely threw me. My kids are my life and the thought of someone taking them away from me is my worst nightmare. She really hit a raw nerve and I just lost my composure.”
Peter added the interview left him emotionally drained, and he went straight home to be with his children afterwards. He added he has nothing to say about Katie’s marriage, explaining as long as his kids are surrounded by good people he has no complaints.
The singer has been touring the country to promote his record in recent weeks, and explained days on the road have left him tired. He is so used to being asked the same questions by fans he often responds in the same way, but has vowed to pay more attention after one uncomfortable slip.
“I really embarrassed myself at one of the signings last week. A lot of the ladies who come to meet me wear my perfume Unconditional, and always tell me, ‘I’m wearing your perfume.’ This really pretty girl came up to talk to me, and I said to her, ‘Are you wearing my perfume?’ and she was like, ‘Er, no.’ I was mortified. Hopefully doesn’t think that I think all women want to smell of my scent! I really need to work on my pulling skills,” he laughed.
