Alicia Silverstone: My son will be vegan
Alicia Silverstone Alicia and her rocker husband Christopher Jarecki welcomed their baby son Bear Blu in May. The star and well known eco-activist and vegan has credited her diet for making her pregnancy “smooth and lovely”, and has revealed that her baby will also undergo her plant-based eating routine.
“Bear was grown on vegan food and we'll continue nourishing him with a healthy diet,” she told the British edition of OK! magazine. “He'll be eating an organic plant-based diet. I intend to take great care of his precious new baby body so I'm committed to giving him nothing but the purest and most healthy food possible. We want to keep his immune system strong so that he'll be super healthy – which is just one of the many reasons he'll eat vegan.”
Alicia became a vegan in 1998 after attending an animal rights meeting, and has gone on to have great success with her book The Kind Diet. While Bear will be brought up as a vegan, Alicia will understand if he wants to change his diet when he is older, conceding that it will be “up to him”.
“Of course I want him to have a healthy life and be compassionate and sensitive towards the Earth and all living creatures. I'll just let whatever happens naturally occur,” she added.
