Jordan Has Married Alex Reid
Jordan Rumours had been rife the pair were planning to tie the knot following Alex’s stint on a celebrity reality TV show, after which he spoke of his love for Katie and confirmed he was ready to settle down with her. The pair then flew to Las Vegas, which is famed for quickie marriages.
They are staying at the upmarket Planet Hollywood hotel in the honeymoon suite which costs £6,000 a night, and were spotted looking at rings shortly before the ceremony.
“Katie and Alex are delighted to announce that they got married in a private, simple ceremony at 4pm (PST) on February 2nd in Las Vegas,” a statement released by their spokesperson said. “Their reason for getting married is purely down to their love for each other.”
Alex was crowned winner of Celebrity Big Brother last week, and since then Katie has repeatedly said she wanted to marry him. In a recent interview she insisted she wanted their union to be “traditional”, adding she would change her name and all her official documents. The revelation was seen as a swipe at her ex-husband Peter Andre, who she split from last year, as Katie didn’t take his surname when they were together.
“We are very much in love and look forward to our future together,” the couple said in a statement. “We can’t wait to get back and celebrate our marriage with our friends and family who we know fully support our wishes.”
It is unknown whether Katie told the three children she raises with Peter about her wedding plans, although it is believed her mother Amy did not know.
It is thought the happy couple will reveal all about their surprise nuptials in an exclusive interview when they return to the UK. The wedding could even be screened on TV, as cameras which follow Katie for her reality programme were with the pair in America. “Katie is not sure yet whether she will allow the footage to be aired. She has not signed any magazine deal for the wedding photographs but they are likely to do an interview about it when they get back,” a source explained.
The ceremony took 22 minutes, with the couple leaving the chapel smiling and holding hands. It was a far cry from Katie’s lavish marriage to Peter, which saw her wearing a huge pink princess dress and arriving in a special carriage.
It is unknown what Katie wore to tie the knot, although reports suggest she had trouble finding the perfect gown and so had to “make do”.
Katie and Alex have been dating for around seven months. She dumped him after appearing on reality show I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! last year, saying she needed time alone to get over the end of her marriage to Peter. They eventually reunited, and are now said to be planning to have children together.
