Victoria Beckham is “panicking” at the prospect of foot surgery which could see her confined to a wheelchair for weeks.

The singer-turned-fashion-designer has suffered from painful bunions on her feet for the past five years. The bone deformity can be a result of wearing the skyscraper heels Victoria loves, and makes wearing high shoes unbearably painful. Although Victoria has previously said she doesn’t understand why any woman would choose to wear ballet pumps, she has recently been spotted in a series of flat shoes and it has been claimed her decision is down to the agony her feet are causing her.

Up until now, Victoria has rallied against having surgery on her feet as it can take a long time to recover from. She is now said to be contemplating going under the knife as she feels it is the only option she has. “It’s getting to the point where she can’t ignore them anymore and the only way to get rid of the pain is by having surgery. She’s finally facing up to it, but she’s really worried about the painful procedure and the fact it will leave her out of action,” a source told Closer magazine.

“She’s having sleepless nights at the thought of it. She’s even been breaking out into a panic from the stress of contemplating such painful surgery. But she knows there’s no way out, so it’s a matter of when.”

Victoria, 34, could have each of her feet operated on separately, but is said to be keen to minimise the amount of time she has to spend in hospital and so will have both done together. She will have to rest her feet for up to six weeks after the procedure, and is currently trying to find a way to fit it into her hectic work schedule.

It has previously been reported Victoria was completing daily foot exercises to try to stave off the need for surgery. She has now realised it is inevitable, but is concerned not being to exercise will mean she puts on weight.

The famously-slim star recently revealed she drinks coffee before running on her treadmill to keep in shape, and is devastated at the thought of not being able to work out. “She’s admitted that not being able to exercise for six weeks will be tough. She’s not looking forward to all the careful dieting she’s going to have to do to make sure she doesn’t gain any weight while she’s got her feet up,” another source explained.
