John Travolta Says His Faith Helped Cope With The Death Of His Son
John Travolta The 55-year-old Scientologist, his wife Kelly Preston and their nine-year-old daughter Ella have sought solace in their religion to help them come to terms with the tragedy. Jett died in January 2009 after suffering a seizure while the family were holidaying in the Bahamas. John is in daily contact with leaders of the controversial faith in a bid to come to terms with Jett’s passing.
"We work hard every day with our church on healing," Travolta said at the premiere of his new movie From Paris with Love last night. "And Kelly and I and Ella have all been working very hard and they've been helping us."
John says the strength he has found in his religion has eased his grief and helped him to continue with his acting career. He is taking each day at a time and is slowly getting his life back on track. "Once you get yourself stable, then you're able to reach out again, you know, and I think this whole year every day we've been working on stabilising ourselves and it's been successful so far,” he explained.
Kelly has previously spoken out about Scientology, revealing support from their church and loved ones has proven crucial since Jett died. She also said the family had been having daily counselling sessions.
“The outpouring of love from, really, worldwide has been extraordinary. It's been our friends, our family, our church. We partake in spiritual counselling pretty much daily,” she said last November.
John, a qualified pilot, flew his private jet to Haiti earlier this week to help the victims of the devastating earthquake.
Accompanied by Kelly, the couple took 22 doctors, medics and several tons of food, water and supplies to the Caribbean island. John has remained modest about his generosity, saying: "The important part of this is that the supplies that we brought were able to stay with those doctors. They've handled hundreds of people already."
