Alec Baldwin hints at retirement
Alec Baldwin The 53-year-old star of 2006 crime thriller The Departed has witnessed something of a career revival recently – mainly due to the success of television comedy 30 Rock, in which he portrays smooth TV exec Jack Donaghy.
However, Alec admits that his apparently glamorous existence is ruled by work, just like anyone else, and finds it “difficult” and “weird” to spend most of his days acting out the life of someone else.
The actor took to Twitter to write that “acting is a job, in the end, like any job”, although he did admit that, while “it’s an unusual” profession, “sometimes, a bit of art may fly in the window”.
Alec reckons “movie-making is weird” as he spends “hours essentially living other people’s lives” and, while he accepts that is what he does for a living, he wanted to ensure his fans realise that it “doesn’t make it any less unusual or difficult at times”.
He also believes that “some in my business would rather live on screen than in real life”, but he wants “the opposite…the older” he becomes as “playing some parts can get under your skin” – particularly this latest role he is playing on TV because he is becoming “more like Jack every week, oddly enough”.
It does appear that Alec is growing less content with his job as it was recently reported that he quit comedy musical movie Rock of Ages ahead of pre-production beginning in Florida last month, although he was persuaded to return – even though he had urged producers to locate a replacement for his role as Dennis Dupree.
