The 19-year-old singer says one of his most memorable festive parties was at a bowling alley two years ago but he knows he can no longer get as drunk as he did that night because it would damage his voice.

Recalling his best New Year’s Eve party, he said: “The most memorable was New Year’s two years ago at our local bowling alley in Newcastle.

“I was too young to drink but I managed to get booze from the bar. I only had three ciders and could hardly stand up – the weight of the ball kept pulling me over.

“I don’t drink that much because I can’t sing properly for two days after.”

The ‘Climb’ hitmaker – who shot to fame after winning UK TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 - revealed he was gay earlier this year but is unsure whether 2011 will be the year he finds love.

He said: “You never know what might happen but I’m not desperately searching for it.”
