Patrick Swayze’s wife Lisa would have loved children
Patrick Swayze But the 54-year-old Finnish American, who was married to the Dirty Dancing star for 34 years, told The Early Show that for them, being parents wasn’t meant to be.
“Oh I would have loved to (have children) but for whatever reason that wasn’t in the cards,” she said.
Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last year, 18 months after being diagnosed. He was aged 57.
Niemi, who met Swayze as a teenager, is now spearheading a campaign to find a cure.
“When Patrick got pancreatic cancer I didn’t know much about it,” she said.
“He knew, and his first thought was ‘I’m a dead man’.”
As a spokesperson for Pan-Can Action Network, Niemi is now committed to educating others about the disease.
“It’s a merciless deadly disease and so severely under-funded it blows your mind, and that has to change,” she said.
“I think Patrick would be very proud, he’d tell me to give them hell!”
