Mika inconsolable after sister’s accident
Mika Paloma Penniman, 28, reportedly lost her balance while she was sitting on a window ledge and plunged 50ft from her townhouse in the Kensington district of London at 5am on Sunday. Both her legs and her abdomen were impaled on railings.
Pop star Mika phoned emergency services and firemen cut through some of the railings before Paloma was rushed to hospital with the spikes still in her. The family have now gathered around the stylist’s bedside at a London hospital and are praying she makes it through the ordeal.
Mika – real name Michael Penniman – has begged for people to give him and his loved ones space as they come to terms with Paloma’s condition.
"Paloma had a serious accident,” Mika’s spokesman said last night. "She is in a critical but stable state. The family have asked for privacy at this time."
Mika and Paloma had been out at dinner before her fall and the 27-year-old singer is said to be “utterly inconsolable”.
"To say he's traumatised by this doesn't even come close,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. "It's the stuff of nightmares. Paloma had surgery on her abdomen and legs - but she is critically ill. Mika is out of his mind with worry.
"No one really knows what happened. One minute Paloma was sitting on the window ledge, the next she had fallen on to the railings."
Police have insisted they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
