Michael Urie says working in the UK made him more inclined to drink alcohol and smoke.

The 30-year-old actor is best known for his role as the eccentric Marc St. James, in popular US comedy series Ugly Betty about life at a hip fashion magazine.

The American star has been in the UK recently though, as he just finished shooting romantic comedy The Decoy Bride alongside Brit actor David Tennant and Alice Eve.

Michael says he’s normally very clean living, but spending time in Britain encouraged him to indulge in unhealthy substances.

“Well I don’t smoke and I don’t really drink that much, although since I’ve been filming in the UK I’ve done a lot more of that!” he laughed in an interview with Closer magazine.

Michael also revealed his rather unusual bathroom habits, admitting that he doesn’t flush the toilet chain unless it is really necessary.  The star says his method isn’t particularly hygienic, but it does help save water.

“There is one thing; I have a saying: ‘If it’s brown, flush it down. If it’s yellow, let it mellow.’ That’s really grubby, but also green,” he argued.
