Michael Douglas joins Hollywood celebs to Stand Up 2 Cancer

Michael Douglas was among more than 100 Hollywood stars who appeared on the US telethon, Stand Up 2 Cancer.

In a recorded message, Douglas, who has throat cancer, said: “Cancer doesn’t care how many Oscars you have won or how many tough guys you’ve played.”

Patrick Swayze’s widow Lisa Niemi also appeared, almost a year after the Dirty Dancing star’s death from pancreatic cancer.

She fought back tears, saying: “Please donate to help all those in the fight against cancer and to remember him.”

Dexter star Michael C Hall, who has battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma, said: “Cancer doesn’t care but we do.

“The end of cancer has begun.”

He appeared alongside pregnant Christina Applegate who beat breast cancer after a double mastectomy.

Other celebrities to appear included George Clooney, whose aunt Rosemary died from the disease, Rob Lowe, Renée Zellweger, Zac Efron, Cat Deeley and Reese Witherspoon.

The show was broadcast across all major TV channels in the US last night.
