Ed Westwick says he suffers from “added stress” in relationships because of his celebrity status.

Ed plays bad boy Chuck Bass in the hit US television series Gossip Girl, and began an on/off relationship with his co-star Jessica Szohr last year.

The pair recently split up again, and the handsome British star says he’s currently single because being an actor and having a relationship is so difficult.

“There’s added stress, yes,” replied Ed when asked by more! magazine if holding down a relationship was made difficult by his career choice.

Ed finds being in the public eye prevents him from being able to resolve relationship issues in private, and believes celebrities need to have a very thick skin if they are to cope with the constant media attention and speculation over their love life.

“Sometimes you can’t deal with things privately – which is how they should be dealt with. It can be pretty hurtful, especially for people who aren’t as tough as they should be. People who don’t have their wall up,” he explained.

The 24-year-old also spoke about the type of women he’s attracted to, revealing that ladies don’t need to conform to any particular ideals to impress him.

“You never know what kind of personal connection you’re going to have. Or what conversation will spark something inside of you. It really comes down to the individual,” revealed the star.
