Gemma Arterton begged crew to wear hotpants
Gemma Arterton The British stars are currently promoting Tamara Drewe, a romantic comedy about a girl who returns to her countryside home town and finds three men competing for her affections. Gemma plays the title role and had to wear a number of skimpy outfits for the role. She found it particularly embarrassing shooting scenes wearing a pair of tiny shorts, so begged the cast and crew to spare her blushes by donning equally revealing clothes.
“I had a special sarong made for me so I didn’t have to walk around in those tiny shorts in front of all the crew,” Gemma told Sky News. “I tried to make everybody wear hotpants that day, but they weren’t interested. It was just me!”
Dominic then smiled cheekily and said he had worn a small pair of shorts around the set to help her out, to which Gemma began laughing and replied, “Yeah, you did. He is really supportive, but the hotpants weren’t!”
Tamara Drewe is a big screen adaptation of a comic strip which was loosely based on Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd. In the movie, Dominic plays Ben Sergeant, a badly behaved rocker who seduces Tamara.
During one scene Dominic had to flirt with Gemma by drumming a pair of chopsticks. The hunk admits he was disappointed he was given such small props and was hoping to prove his masculinity by handling dangerous weapons.
“I have used it since, absolutely,” he joked when asked if he has tried drumming with chopsticks to impress a girl in real life. “In the original, in Far From the Madding Crowd, there is a wonderful, energetic swooshing of swords, and this was deeply unimpressive because all I was given was some chopsticks.”
