Michael Douglas: Cancer knocks you out
Michael Douglas Michael announced he has throat cancer last month, and opened up about his diagnosis on American TV yesterday. He revealed he has stage four cancer, and is currently in his first week of an eight-week treatment cycle. The 65-year-old actor is undergoing intensive radiation and chemotherapy, and doctors are confident he will make a full recovery.
In an interview with People magazine, Michael and Catherine have further discussed his medical issues. The actor revealed he had suffered persistent throat and ear pain prior to his diagnosis, with Catherine saying she is finding it difficult to see how his treatment is affecting him.
“The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired,” she told the publication.
“It's a fight,” Michael added. “It really knocks you out.”
The couple have kids Dylan, ten, and seven-year-old Carys together. They decided to discuss Michael’s health with their children, with the actor breaking the news to them.
“Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now,” Catherine explained. “If there's anything Michael has, it's strength.”
Michael added this year has been “intense” for his family – his son Cameron, 31, is currently serving five years in jail following drugs offences.
The star has vowed to remain positive though, previously revealing the percentages are “very good” for his survival. “I would hate to say, but right now, it looks like it should be 80%,” he said yesterday.
