Drew Barrymore: My real life is a mess
Drew Barrymore The actress, 35, has a successful Hollywood career spanning nearly 30 years, and has turned her hand to producing and directing in recent years. Drew admits that while she’s very organised in her career, she doesn’t display the same skills when it comes to housekeeping.
The star says when she’s away for work, her hotel rooms end up looking like they have been trashed by the late punk rock star Sid Vicious of 70s band The Sex Pistols.
"You should see my hotel room right now. It looks like Sid Vicious is living there. It’s absolutely nuts,” laughed Drew in an interview with Stylist magazine.
The actress’s directing debut, the 2009 coming-of-age movie Whip It, won her critical acclaim, and the star thanks her strong work ethic for the movie’s success.
She also wishes she could care for herself as well as she cares for her movies. "As a director I was always on time, I had shot-listed, story-boarded, I knew exactly what I wanted and had an answer for every question. When it comes to directing I’m as fastidious as it gets,” she confessed.
“But my real life is a disaster… I need to call somebody to help because it’s starting to look weird. I’m just a mess. My desk is a mess, I’m never organised, I lose everything.”
The actress is currently starring in romantic comedy Going the Distance opposite her on/off boyfriend Justin Long.
The movie is about a couple trying to make a long-distance relationship work, and Drew says she could empathise with her character as she and Justin are often apart.
Drew went on to joke that her work so often seems to reflect her real-life that she has started to think she should give up on acting.
"I don’t know. I guess it has always been that reality. But it does make me think about early retirement!" she laughed when asked whether the lines between her real-life and her on-screen life had blurred.
