Halle Berry celebrates charity donation
Halle Berry The Hollywood star has been worked at the Jenesse Center in Los Angeles since 2000. The charity aims to help women who are victims of domestic violence make a new life for themselves and their families.
Halle started working at the organisation after she was involved in a car accident. She was ordered to pay a $15,000 fine and given three years’ probation and 250 hours of community service after she left the scene of the crash, and was given a list of charities she could work with. She opted for the Jenesse Center as domestic violence is an important topic to her. Halle’s mother was a victim of it, and the star has also been in violent relationships.
Halle spoke about her work with the organisation at a lunch held at Revlon mogul Ronald Perelman’s home in the East Hamptons on Sunday.
“When Perelman announced Revlon will donate half the $500,000 the centre needs for a new facility, Berry ran a lap around the tables and high-fived the crowd,” the New York Post reports.
Also present at the dinner were Tamara Mellon, Amanda Cutter, Dave Zinczenko and Ed Lewis. All the guests were moved when Halle discussed her work with the Jenesse Center, as she was so open about her reasons for being there.
“It changed my life,” she said of the car accident. “I hadn't been doing enough. It was time.”
Halle suffered amnesia after the crash, and had 17 stitches in her forehead.
