Sandra Bullock speaks out about adopted son
Sandra Bullock The 46-year-old Oscar winner has set up home in New Orleans with the seven-month-old baby and says she feels “lucky” to be given the opportunity to raise him.
Sandra revealed she had adopted a child from New Orleans earlier this year, around the time she filed for divorce from Jesse James. The actress has now opened up about the four-year procedure she went through in order to become a mother.
"It was a long process," she told Matt Lauer during an interview for the Today show. "I did not circumvent. I wanted to do everything exactly the same way everyone else did. And - it was - he was always mine, you know. It wasn't like I felt like someone was going to take him away. But it was nice to have someone say, I think you're a fit parent.
"Everything works out the way the universe wants it to work out. We had always said that it didn't matter where the child came from.
"He's a little Cajun cookie."
Sandra admits it was a surprise to discover she would be adopting a boy because she is used to being surrounded by women. However, the pair quickly formed a close bond and the Hollywood star now can’t imagine life without him.
She is thrilled she was able to keep the adoption out of the spotlight for months and has paid tribute to her close-knit circle of friends and family for all their love and support during the process.
"It takes good people with integrity," Sandra added. "I mean, I read something like, how did someone keep a secret, and it's - you know - human beings exist that have integrity that know how to keep their mouth shut. Those people are all over the place.
“But I was blessed with the same friends I've had since before things got really special for me and blessed in life."
