Jessica Simpson has urged her fans not to “rely on men” to make them feel good about themselves.

The 30-year-old singer is shocked by the number of women who think they need a boyfriend or a husband to be confident. She is convinced true beauty comes from within, and has nothing to do with anyone else, and wishes others would understand this about themselves.

“Women should be strong. I think we define our own beauty. We certainly don’t need a man to validate us so don’t rely on them,” Jessica insisted to the British edition of OK! magazine. “No man defines a woman. I don’t think that being loved by a man or being in love with a man makes someone more beautiful.”

Jessica has spoken publicly about her battle with her weight several times in the past. She now says she has moved past her insecurities, and is focusing on helping others tackle theirs with her television show The Price of Beauty. The programme sees Jessica and her friends travel around the world to investigate beauty standards in different cultures.
