Usher: I don’t regret my failed marriage
Usher The 31-year-old R&B star married the stylist in August 2007, but they divorced last June after just two years of marriage. The split was acrimonious, but Usher says all his negative feelings towards Tameka have since dissolved.
He is now “glad” he married her, even though it didn’t work out, because their children, Usher, two, and 20-month-old Naviyd, are so amazing. The singer even says he has rediscovered a “love” for Tameka because she will always be the mother of his children.
"I appreciate the relationship for what it was," he said. "Even though it didn't work out, I'm glad we got together. I love her as the mother of my children; we just couldn't be married. We're two different people and we have two different goals. It just was never going to work out 100%."
"We had to put our issues aside and focus on raising them. There will never be another mother for my sons, and I'll always be their father."
Usher and Tameka share custody of their sons, and the singer loves every second he spends with them. Despite this, he admits caring for them can be exhausting, and has even started to surprise himself by saying things his mother used to say to him.
"They both have a lot of energy. They can wear me out,” the star told People magazine. “Sometimes, when I'm scolding the kids, I sound just like my mom. I'm like, 'How did my mom get in here?' "
