Tom Cruise has embarked on a strict diet and exercise regime to make himself look younger for Mission: Impossible IV.

The 48-year-old actor announced he was reprising the role of secret agent Ethan Hunt in the action thriller franchise earlier this year. Production on the latest instalment of the series is due to begin later this year, and Tom is reportedly desperate to ensure he doesn’t look too much older than he did in the first film, which was made in 1996 when Tom was just 34.

“Tom has put himself on a strict fitness routine and diet, which includes daily three-hour workouts and a low-carb meal plan consisting of 1,200-1,300 calories per day,” a source told In Touch Weekly.

“Tom is determined to look like he did ten years ago… he has been working out with his personal trainer.”

Tom is so committed to getting in shape that he has even taken a step back from his usually busy social life. The source said the star’s friends haven’t seen much of him since he started his fitness regime because he doesn’t want any “distractions”.
